Agility Dogs
Meeko & Serena: Are Your Dogs Any Good?
Yes, they are both very accomplished agility dogs.  Here are their bios.

SERENA, NAC, NCC, SpCH:
At age one she was found by some police officers after being hit by a car in 1999. She suffered a
fractured pelvis, torn ligaments in both knees, a fractured femur and a hip luxation.   She required 8
surgeries to repair her which took place throughout the second year of her life and resulted in her
having a metal plate on her femur.  Due to her extreme injuries, Serena developed severe arthritis in
both knees and minor arthritis in one hip.  No one thought she'd be able to run, let alone do agility.
After rehabilitation, she was able to start training for agility which she loved!  Having never had any
obedience training, it took a total of two years to get her ready for competitions. She was the speed
demon the agility class!  In 2002 right before she was ready to start competing she was diagnosed
with cancer and had to undergo radiation therapy which took up 6 months of her life. In 2003 she was
finally able to start competing in agility and had her first trial in June of 2003.  She competed in mainly
NADAC and some USDAA from June 2003- October 2004.

In 18 months she was able to obtain her NAC and NCC titles in NADAC and was 5 points away from
obtaining her OAC title.  She was only one leg away from obtaining her P-1 Standard Title in USDAA in
October 2004. In March of 2005 she ran outside to chase a squirrel, slipped on ice and broke the leg
that had underwent radiation therapy.  Likely the leg broke because it was weak from radiation therapy.
Despite efforts to repair the leg, she eventually required an amputation. USDAA does not allow any
three legged dogs to compete and NADAC only allows three legged dogs in two events.  So, Serena
was basically kicked out of the two organizations she had competed in because of her handicap.  CPE
was an organization which allowed Serena to compete in everything.  In August of 2005 (only one
month after her amputation) Serena was competed in her first CPE trial. Three months after her leg
amputation, she needed a toe amputation due to a benign growth that started to encompass her pad.

Currently Serena competes in CPE in a Specialist Level.  This allow her to compete at a lower jump
height.
Serena became the FIRST three legged dog in the country to obtain the Specialist Champion
Title in CPE!
She continues to earn points towards a SECOND title.  Go Serena!! Serena is currently
10 years old and has had a history of medical problems causing her to stop competing, but throughout
it all she always has wanted to run agility.

Serena was the only three legged dog out of 607 dogs to compete in the 2009 CPE Nationals in
Greenfield, Massachusetts.  She qualified in 7 out of 9 events and took home two plaques for her
height class:  High in Standard and 1st place in Games.

MEEKO, CSL1, CSL2, CSL3,

Meeko has lead a much less boring life.  She came to us through a rescue organization that had
picked her up in Ohio after a man dropped her and her sister off at a shelter only for cats.  In June of
2004 we adopted her and she was only 7 weeks old at the time.  She started on agility equipment at 12
weeks of age and thought it was funny to chase her sister, Serena, in and out of tunnels.  She thought
that the see-saw was just another game and by 6 months of age she started going to formal agility
classes for socialization and to learn how to work with distractions.

Meeko has always loved agility because it's always been part of her life. Dogs must be at least 15
months of age to start competing, so in August of 2005 she competed in her first CPE trial.  Due to her
sister's handicap, Meeko has mainly competed in CPE, but has gone to two NADAC trials.

Meeko has really improved in the past year and started to excell in agility.  In June 2009 she competed
in the CPE Nationals in Greenfield, Massachusetts where she qualified in 6 out of 9 events!   She is
currently in between Levels 4 & 5 and working towards her CATCH.
